Director, Privacy & Data Protection – Exciting Opportunity with BDO

BDO, a global accounting and advisory firm, is seeking a Director to join their thriving Privacy & Data Protection Practice as a subject matter expert and engagement leader. This role will involve working with both domestic and international clients and professionals, providing global solutions for data protection and privacy needs.

The Director will be responsible for maintaining existing client relationships, developing new relationships, delivering quality work product, managing project teams, and ensuring projects are completed on-time and on-budget. This is a leadership position that requires strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop and deliver global data protection and privacy strategies for client C-suite/board
- Build cross-cultural functionality for clients to implement global privacy programs
- Manage BDO USA team members and collaborate with BDO Member Firms and offshore team members
- Provide detailed information on domestic and global privacy laws to clients
- Establish new relationships to drive new opportunities for BDO
- Comply with BDO’s Quality Risk Management, Data Protection, and other Frameworks
- Maintain relationships with client professionals and introduce them to other BDO professionals
- Manage project requirements and on-site/remote teams
- Ensure timely and thoughtful responses to client inquiries and requests
- Build relationships with other BDO professionals and cross-sell services
- Update customer relationship management for accurate pipeline reporting
- Review and provide feedback on client executive reports
- Develop proposals, respond to RFP/RFIs, and manage agreements according to BDO standards
- Utilize knowledge of client needs to develop project and resource plans, establish reporting and metrics, and provide regular updates
- Participate in interviews and meetings related to business, legal, IT, privacy, and governance
- Proofread and edit executive reports before presenting to clients
- Manage BDO client and partner expectations at all levels
- Mentor team members to ensure consistent quality work product and adherence to BDO standards
- Manage multiple large, complex, and potentially long-term engagements and clients
- Support the Data Protection Officer for clients as needed
- Develop and manage project budgets, review invoices, and ensure timely delivery
- Act as a leader and maintain a professional, positive attitude with clients and firm personnel
- Manage a team of professionals on a project or regional basis
- Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

- Train Sr. Managers, Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates on relevant software, tools, and processes
- Evaluate performance and assist in professional development for Sr. Managers, Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates
- Deliver periodic performance feedback and complete evaluations in accordance with firm guidance
- Mentor Sr. Managers, Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates as needed

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s, Juris Doctorate, or MBA preferred
- 10+ years of consulting experience required
- 3+ years of data protection or privacy experience required
- Experience working with Fortune 500 clients preferred
- 5+ years of experience managing large, complex privacy projects required

Licenses/Certifications:

- One or more of the following privacy certifications required: CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, CIPT, CDPSE, or other privacy certifications
- OneTrust, TrustArc, or other privacy-enabled technology solutions preferred

Software:

- OneTrust, BigID, and other privacy and GRC software
- Strong Microsoft PowerPoint skills required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Visio, required, including Office 365, OneDrive, and SharePoint preferred
- Knowledge of database systems, software development lifecycle, and technology company operations preferred

- Multilingual capabilities (read, speak, and/or write) preferred
