The candidate is responsible for the approval, request for, and prosecution of all Protective Orders filed on behalf of victims of family violence or sexual assault. Duties include approval of applications by victims, presentation to Judiciary for approval, and all hearings or other details involved in settling these court actions. Assist and advise applicants for court protective orders by receiving and corroborating complaints through third parties, assist in the completion of applications, advise policies and procedures, obtain personal and incidental background data, and obtain affidavits. Review Protective Order applications and either approve or deny them. Presentation of new protective order applications to Judges of Denton County. Investigation and preparation for protective order hearings. Advise applicants of available counseling and human services agencies in the community, and make referrals, as appropriate. Prepare protective order cases for trial, review case files, advise and negotiate with defense Attorneys, confer with law enforcement and judicial personnel, locate witnesses and defendants, interview victims and witnesses, perform legal research, confer with victims and their families, investigate incidents, visit crime scenes, and examine physical evidence. Prepare and review Discovery. Review and discuss with Family Law Attorneys regarding protective orders. Draft and approval of legal papers. Perform legal research to support the court case being conducted. Modification of existing protective orders. Present contempt actions on existing protective orders. Regular and punctual attendance is required. Perform other related duties as required. Should have Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law. Must be Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas. Must have 1+ years of experience in a related field required.
