A law firm is seeking a Mid-Level Patent Associate Attorney for their Chicago, IL office.

Job Overview:

The Mid-Level Patent Associate Attorney will primarily focus on patent prosecution and portfolio management, with a preference for candidates experienced in optics, acoustics, video and audio signal processing and codecs, virtual/augmented reality, and microscopy systems and imaging techniques. The role involves collaborating with internal and external clients, attorneys, and staff, managing deadlines for multiple projects, and adapting to evolving Firm needs.

Duties:

  • Conduct patent prosecution and portfolio management activities
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on patent matters
  • Manage deadlines for a variety of ongoing projects
  • Adapt to evolving Firm needs and embrace new skills and best practices

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of prosecution experience at a firm or in-house
  • Experience with portfolio management
  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Optics, Physics, or Biomedical (with an electrical or software focus)
  • Graduate-level experience or advanced technical degree (preferred)
  • Admission to the USPTO (preferred)
  • Involvement with patent analysis/opinions of counsel and IPRs (preferred)

Education and Certifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field
  • Graduate-level experience or advanced technical degree (preferred)
  • Admission to the USPTO (preferred)

Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in optics, acoustics, video and audio signal processing and codecs, virtual/augmented reality, and microscopy systems and imaging techniques (preferred)
  • Experience in software and AI (a plus)
  • Ability to manage time and deadlines effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
