A law firm is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join their team in Rockville, MD. The primary responsibility of this role is to manage bankruptcy matters that are contested or litigated. The successful candidate will have significant experience representing creditors and/or debtors in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 bankruptcy cases, handle a high-volume workload, and maintain effective client communication.

 

Duties:

  • Manage bankruptcy matters that are contested or litigated.
  • Draft and review all pleadings and claims filed in the particular matter.
  • Respond to objections and motions involving the rights of clients.
  • Attend scheduled court hearings.
  • Respond to general firm-wide bankruptcy inquiries.
  • Prepare and execute legal documents related to bankruptcy cases.
  • Draft and review all client filings.
  • Monitor all electronic case filings (ECFs).
  • Maintain regular communication with clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in bankruptcy and/or creditor’s rights with a working knowledge of the Bankruptcy Code.
  • Experience representing creditors and/or debtors in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 bankruptcy cases.
  • Ability to manage client contact and handle a high-volume workload effectively.

 

Education:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

 

Certifications:

  • Must be admitted to practice law in Florida and the Federal Districts in Florida.
  • Familiarity with Florida bankruptcy courts, local rules, and court procedures.
  • License to practice law in Florida preferred, but candidates licensed in other states will be considered.
  • Admissions in other jurisdictions and/or experience in bankruptcy litigation is a strong plus and may substitute for admission in Florida.

 

Skills:

  • Advanced computer literacy with the ability to learn and utilize various case management systems.
  • Familiarity with the CM/ECF filing system.
  • Exceptional work ethic and high degree of professionalism.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Effective time management abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of consumer loan documents.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of bankruptcy rules/laws and general creditor rights laws.
