The compensation for this position ranges from $107,000 to $181,000 per year, depending on experience and location. The Trial Attorney will handle moderately complex litigation cases involving American Family Insurance and its insured clients, and will report to the Senior Manager, Legal. As a Trial Attorney, you will have the opportunity to personally handle complex litigation cases and advocate for the best interests of American Family Insurance and its clients. You will conduct research, draft pleadings and briefs, and represent the company in various forums, including state and federal court, alternative dispute resolution, and administrative tribunals. This is a great opportunity for individuals with insurance litigation experience and a strong understanding of Illinois laws and regulations. Responsibilities: - Handle litigation cases involving American Family Insurance and its clients within established corporate guidelines and professional responsibility codes - Analyze cases and seek settlements - Conduct discovery and motion practice - Draft necessary legal documents and conduct research to support litigation - Advocate for the company's position in various forums and circumstances - Stay up-to-date on state statutes and court decisions to ensure compliance and proper interpretation of policy provisions - May specialize in certain practice areas such as special property, workers' compensation, environmental law, or commercial coverage - Litigate in the Chicagoland area Qualifications: - Prior insurance litigation experience - Strong knowledge of Illinois laws and regulations, including the Illinois Rules of Professional Responsibility - Ability to prepare civil pleadings, motions, and discovery and depose witnesses - Illinois bar admission or eligibility for admission within one year of hiring - Juris Doctor degree This is a remote position, with 60-70% of the work being done from home. The Trial Attorney may occasionally need to travel for in-person engagements within the Cook and adjacent counties.
