Are you a law student looking for valuable experience in the legal field? Idaho Legal Aid Services, Inc. offers internship opportunities for 1L, 2L, and 3L students, as well as select undergraduate internships at some of our offices.

Compensation and Time Commitment

Our internships are unpaid, but credit is available for those who qualify. The weekly time commitment is negotiable for interns not receiving credit, but for summer internships, a minimum of 15 hours per week for 8 weeks is required. This may vary depending on the requirements of your law school.

Position Description

As an intern, you will work directly with our staff attorneys on legal research projects and assist with cases. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various legal areas, including housing, family and domestic violence, consumer law, public benefits, guardianships, wills and trusts, elder law, and Indian law. You will have the chance to take on substantial responsibilities, such as calling and meeting with clients, interviewing witnesses, trial preparation, researching and writing briefs and memorandums, drafting pleadings, and conducting educational workshops. You may also be responsible for administrative tasks like filing and copying.

Qualifications

1L applicants must have completed their first year of law school, while 2L and 3L applicants may be in any semester of study. We are looking for individuals with a strong interest in working with the low-income community and addressing poverty law issues. Our ideal candidate is self-motivated, has a strong sense of justice, exhibits professionalism, can work under deadlines, and has excellent interpersonal and legal writing skills.
