Job Overview:

A law firm in New York City is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Labor Law/Construction Law Litigation Associate Attorney to join their team. The successful candidate will handle a diverse caseload involving substantial litigation defense across various practice areas, including construction defect, New York labor law, and potentially professional executive and D&O matters. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in defense litigation, excellent research and analytical skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Duties:

  • Draft, prepare, and handle pleadings, motions, orders, and legal memoranda.
  • Draft and respond to written discovery and dispositive motions.
  • Conduct legal research competently and with proficiency.
  • Prepare and take depositions of parties and experts.
  • Review client documents, draft case evaluations, and provide status report correspondence.
  • Review, assess, and handle matters from inception to trial.
  • Assist with and participate in mediations and court appearances.
  • Interact directly with clients, claim professionals, opposing counsel, colleagues, and staff.

Requirements:

  • 5 years of defense litigation experience.
  • Must be licensed to practice in New York courts; additional state admissions, including New Jersey, preferred.
  • Experience in handling defense litigation matters involving construction defense litigation and New York labor law.
  • Proactive and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with superb organization and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of both state and federal court procedures.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Internet navigation.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Skills:

  • Proficient in legal research and case analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent organization and prioritization.
  • MS Office proficiency (Excel, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with both state and federal court procedures.
