The Office of the Attorney General in Florida offers an exciting opportunity for law students to gain practical experience in the legal field through their internship program. As the attorney for the State of Florida and a member of the Florida Cabinet, the Attorney General represents and defends State prosecutions in all criminal appeals in the five state courts of appeal, the Florida Supreme Court, and federal courts.

The internship program is open to interested students enrolled in an accredited ABA law school. The program offers unpaid internships for academic credit and through participation in law school sponsored programs such as Pro Bono Programs, Law School sponsored clinics, Law School Paid Stipend programs, etc. The internship is a great way for students to gain practical experience and contribute to meaningful work towards the completion of their degree.

The internships are available primarily for law student interns, and students must be able to intern a minimum of 20 hours per week, or for a period prescribed by their college or school. The number and locations of internship opportunities available each term are based on agency need and opportunity. Interested students are encouraged to apply early, as applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Application Deadlines:

- Summer: January 31 (extended to March 1 for 2024)

Roles and Responsibilities:

- Represent and defend State prosecutions in all criminal appeals in the five state courts of appeal, the Florida Supreme Court, and federal courts.
- Provide legal assistance to state attorneys through the five criminal bureaus.
- Handle death penalty litigation statewide before the Florida Supreme Court and federal courts.
- Serve as the attorney for the State of Florida and a member of the Florida Cabinet.
- Perform meaningful work towards the completion of their degree.
- Gain practical experience in the legal field.

Qualifications:

- Law student enrolled in an accredited ABA law school.
- Able to intern a minimum of 20 hours per week or for a period prescribed by their college or school.
