Job Description: The Assistant Public Defender II & III positions require exceptional trial skills, innovative thinking, and the ability to work independently. They must also be able to manage a full caseload and continuously seek professional development opportunities. Minimum Qualifications: - Juris Doctorate degree or equivalent from an accredited school of law - Experience as a practicing Attorney - Admission to practice law in the State of Maryland Selective Qualifications: - Demonstrated commitment to serving marginalized communities - Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills - Dedication to addressing systemic racism, prejudice, and inequity in the criminal justice system - Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a diverse, team-oriented environment - Competency in managing a high caseload and criminal trial experience (preferably with felony jury trials) - Active membership in good standing in the Maryland Bar or Bar of another state (with the expectation of becoming a member of the Maryland Bar within 18 months of the start date) Salary and Benefits: Salary for these positions is dependent on experience and will follow the State of Maryland salary rules. Assistant Public Defender II positions will range from $93, - $126,, and Assistant Public Defender III positions will range from $103, - $135,. Full-time employees are also eligible for benefits, which can be reviewed on the State of Maryland Employee’s page.
