As Law School Starts, How Are Legal Jobs Faring?
August 19, 2008
Pasadena, CA — It's time for law school to start up again. Over 180 law schools will open their doors, if they haven't already, within the next three weeks. That's a lot of students, and, of course, the question is, where are they all going to go?

Recent news in the legal industry suggests that the legal job market is on a downhill slide. We hear of recent cutbacks at top firms, and it seems there is not much hope. However, there are still law jobs out there! In fact, there are a lot of them. More than 50,000 legal jobs are available — right this very second.

Did you know that the majority of law school graduates do not find a job until after they graduate from law school? The reason for this is fairly simple — small and mid-size firms dominate the legal market, accounting for 90% of the law firms in the country. Those firms, however, are unable to hire associates more than 12 months ahead of time (like the large firms do), and would rather hire someone who they know is able to contribute right now, not two years from now.

One of the best sources to get these jobs is a legal job board. Unlike a regular job board such as Monster.com, one that focuses on legal jobs is the best solution to finding these currently available jobs.

At LawCrossing, we take our responsibility seriously. We don't just list a few legal jobs; we try to find every legal job out there. And, we don't charge employers anything to list their jobs, so we can get lots more of them. Sure, people can visit firm websites on their own, but let's face it, that takes time. And time equals money — money they aren't getting while they don't have a job. And every day they don't have a job diminishes the value of the legal educations that law students are working for right now.

Right now, LawCrossing has over 50,000 jobs, so there are plenty to choose from. Just as an example, right now in Montana — a very small legal market — there are over 117 attorney positions available on LawCrossing.

By signing up for Lawcrossing, law students and anyone else looking for work can still find great legal jobs — even in an economy where big law firms are axing 20 percent of their staffs.
