Management needs to offer a means for employees to be paid what they deserve. If business is slow then strategize in marketing, etc. A firm will not last long is business is slow and employees are being paid unfairly.
I found this work environment to be an incredibly positive one. I became great friends with other employees and built a lot of long-term relationships working in this firm. I still keep in touch with management and they were happy when I told them I got a better job offer. They really want their employees to succeed, even if it's not within their own firm.
My only issue with this firm was the lack of raises and promotions. The firm was small so I understand money being tight at times, but this was why I left the firm and why many others did in the past. If they want employees to stay they need to offer better wages.
