As a Patent Counsel at GSK, you will be responsible for building and managing patent portfolios related to cutting-edge pharmaceutical products. This role will allow you to work with a large team of in-house . and European patent attorneys, paralegals, and support staff. You will also have the opportunity to support the larger R&D organization, including client counseling, invention spotting, freedom-to-operate analysis, and due diligence analysis and reporting. This role will also give you exposure to major areas of the business, including commercial, clinical, regulatory, business development, manufacturing and supply, and transactional groups.

Key Responsibilities:

- Independently build and manage patent portfolios related to cutting-edge pharmaceutical products
- Draft and prosecute patent applications in the . and foreign jurisdictions
- Work with a large team of in-house . and European patent attorneys, paralegals, and support staff
- Support the larger R&D organization in client counseling, invention spotting, freedom-to-operate analysis, and due diligence analysis and reporting
- Provide support for . and . litigation, oppositions, IPRs, and other judicial and non-judicial proceedings around the world

Basic Qualifications:

- . law degree and admitted to practice law in at least one . state
- Bachelor's degree in a life science field
- Admitted to practice in front of the . Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
- 1+ years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm or in-house patent department, with significant experience in drafting, filing, and prosecuting life science patent applications in the . and foreign jurisdictions
- Ability to work at a GSK site in Durham, NC; Rockville, MD; or Upper Providence, PA two to three days per week
- Ability to accommodate occasional, multi-day business trips (less than 10% of working days)

Preferred Qualifications:

- Significant experience drafting patent applications for large or small molecule therapeutics, such as antibodies, chemical compounds, oligonucleotides, and vaccines, as well as related processes, formulations, and methods of use
- Advanced life science degree or 3+ years of experience working as a biomedical research scientist, medicinal chemist, or similar
- Experience conducting freedom-to-operate assessments for commercial products or products in development
- Comfort using technological tools and systems to increase workplace efficiency
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with an international, multicultural, diverse team located in different jurisdictions and time zones
