Job Title: Patent Agent

Job Overview:
A law firm in Phoenix, AZ, is seeking a highly motivated Patent Agent to join its team. The Patent Agent will be responsible for drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications on behalf of clients and supporting various aspects of patent litigation. The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a global professional team.

Duties:

  • Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications on behalf of clients
  • Focus on patent filings, due diligence, landscape analysis, freedom-to-operate analysis, and validity assessment arising from collaboration with industry partners
  • Support all aspects of patent litigation, including discovery, depositions, motion practice, and trials
  • Draft responses to the rejection of a patent application for an invention from the United States Patent and Trademark Office and other worldwide Patent Offices
  • Work with clients on innovative and cutting-edge technologies to procure patent protection and build IP portfolios
  • Establish and maintain internal practices, procedures, and technology for coordinating and streamlining patent-related information, filings, and deadlines

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, or related field
  • 3 years of experience in patent prosecution
  • Industry experience (or equivalent) in the fields of Software Development/Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and/or Machine Learning is strongly preferred
  • Registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Skills:

  • Proven ability to concentrate on project management and pay close attention to project details
  • Advanced writing skills with the ability to research information as needed to clearly and concisely communicate ideas
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with internal and external clients
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects and meet deadlines
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing work priorities, workflow, and work assignments
  • Ability to diplomatically provide answers, pushback, or question those in authority for greater clarity or more information, if needed
  • Creative thinking with good judgment and decision-making capabilities
