Salary The annual salary for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications. ## Assistant General Counsel - Contracting ### Position Summary Under the general supervision of the General Counsel, the Assistant General Counsel – Contracting serves as a key member of the company's legal team. The responsibilities of the position cover a wide range of legal matters that would typically confront a company's general counsel’s office, including: providing a diverse range of legal advice to the company; ensuring the company's legal and sovereign interests are protected; and serving as the primary contact and expert for the company's contracting matters, subject to the direction and oversight of the General Counsel. ### Supervision Exercised Reports to the In-house General Counsel of the company. ### Major Duties and Responsibilities The duties and responsibilities of the Assistant General Counsel – Contracting include, but are not limited to: - Provide contract review for various types of agreements, including professional and master services agreements, independent contractor agreements, construction contracts, intergovernmental and grant agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and the like, for the company and its enterprises. - Proofread, edit, and fact-check legal documents for accuracy and consistency. - Ensure consistency of contract terms with company contracting policies and goals. - Reduce contract risk and legal exposures. - Work within the company’s contract management and records storage systems efficiently. - Adhere to procedures for contract management and administration in compliance with the company’s policies. - Read and interpret existing contracts and provide guidance. - Handle a wide range of contracting legal matters. ### Secondary Duties and Responsibilities The Assistant General Counsel – Contracting will also: - Provide legal advice, counsel and assistance to the company, including its governmental and business entities, in relation to their duties and the operation of the company and its programs, projects, services, and commercial enterprises. - Work efficiently and effectively with other departments to achieve the policy objectives of the company. - Perform other duties as deemed necessary. ### Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The successful candidate for the Assistant General Counsel – Contracting position must have: - Strong and demonstrated initiative, good judgment, creativity, and work ethic. - Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well collegially. - Demonstrated willingness to accept unusual and challenging assignments and an ability identify successful strategies to obtain a desired result. - Highly independent and organized and able to manage a significant number of active matters simultaneously. - Thorough knowledge of and commitment to professional ethics, particularly those rules that relate to the representation of governments. - Outstanding time management skills. ### Requirements The following qualifications, education and experience are required of the successful candidate: - - Must be a member in good standing with the New Mexico Bar Association and licensed to practice law in the State of New Mexico with seven (7) years of relevant contract law experience, preferably in business, governmental and Indian law environment. - At least three (3) years of direct experience in contract preparation, negotiation and contract management. - Excellent references with substantial personal knowledge of applicant’s legal abilities in the area of contract law. ### Preferred Qualifications The following qualifications are preferred for the Assistant General Counsel – Contracting position: - Experience working for or with tribal governments, law firm specializing in tribal law, or graduate of an Indian law program. - Working knowledge of federal Indian law, New Mexico law, and other relevant Federal and state regulations and policies that apply to tribal communities. ### Licensing Status The successful candidate must: - Be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation. - Be subject to post-offer, pre-employment and random drug screening. ### Working Conditions The Assistant General Counsel – Contracting position is: - Normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. - Eligible for 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday (except observed holidays) work hours. - Not eligible for remote work or telecommute, or alternative work schedules. - Not subject to physical effort or physical risk. - Subject to travel requirements. ### Salary The annual salary for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
