Job Summary:

BlackLine, a leading provider of cloud software for financial close processes, is seeking a Senior Counsel to join their legal team. This role will focus on providing legal support for product development, intellectual property, and technology licensing. The ideal candidate will have a JD degree and at least 7 years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal department of a technology company. This role will be based in one of BlackLine's US offices in California.

Key Responsibilities:

- Partner with product, engineering, and design teams on legal strategy for IP portfolio, technology licensing, and partnerships
- Support Professional Services and Sales teams in developing processes for IP protection in customer enhancement requests
- Provide guidance on open-source compliance and licensing processes
- Negotiate agreements with technology partners in collaboration with other teams
- Work closely with Privacy and Compliance team on product training and risk assessments
- Provide legal support for IP and product matters to stakeholders at all levels of the company
- Play an active role in customer-facing negotiations
- Proactively identify and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders
- Supervise other team members and provide leadership as needed
- Find pragmatic solutions to legal issues while balancing risks with business interests

Qualifications:

- JD degree and active license to practice law in California or ability to register in-house
- 7+ years of combined legal experience in a law firm or technology company
- Experience advising on technology and legal risk management in the SaaS sector
- Passion for the technology industry and willingness to learn and innovate
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
