A law firm in Seattle is seeking a Patent Agent with expertise in Molecular Biology to join its Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group, Patent Development and Strategy Subgroup. The ideal candidate should possess strong academic backgrounds from nationally recognized schools, prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm, and transferable skills. Additionally, preference will be given to candidates with a background in life sciences, particularly biotechnology, and registration with the USPTO. An advanced degree, preferably a PhD, in molecular and cellular biology or similar disciplines (excluding chemistry, medical device, or pharmaceutical sciences) is preferred. Experience in litigation, opinions, licensing, patent due diligence, and/or trademark matters is also desirable.

 

Duties:

  • Conducting patent prosecution activities including drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications
  • Providing legal and technical advice on patent matters related to molecular biology
  • Conducting patentability and freedom-to-operate searches and analyses
  • Assisting with patent portfolio management and strategy development
  • Collaborating with inventors, attorneys, and clients to identify and protect intellectual property assets
  • Participating in patent litigation matters and providing technical support as needed
  • Conducting patent due diligence investigations for corporate transactions
  • Drafting and negotiating licensing agreements and technology transfer agreements

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in molecular biology or related field
  • Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • 2-5 years of experience in patent prosecution and intellectual property matters
  • Strong academic background from a nationally recognized institution
  • Prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm is preferred
  • Advanced degree, preferably a PhD, in molecular and cellular biology or similar disciplines (excluding chemistry, medical device, or pharmaceutical sciences)
  • Background in life sciences, particularly biotechnology, is highly desirable
  • Experience in litigation, opinions, licensing, patent due diligence, and/or trademark matters is preferred

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in molecular biology or related field
