Job Summary:
BDO's Private Client Services is a boutique practice within the firm, serving high net-worth individuals, families, family offices, C-Suite executives, athletes, and entertainers. The Private Client Services Practice offers a high touch approach and extensive experience in estate, income, gift, and trust tax consulting and compliance, charitable giving and philanthropic foundations, executive compensation, and cash-flow, retirement, and life insurance planning.

Job Description:

As a Private Client Services (PCS) Tax Managing Director, you will utilize your educational background, professional experience, and skills in communication, time management, leadership, technical expertise, business development, and people management to provide tax compliance and consulting services to high net-worth clients. You will also play a critical role as a member of the office/region leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead tax and consulting engagements and mentor team members on client needs, tax planning, and consulting opportunities
- Act as the primary client contact and present complex issues and resolutions
- Review complex tax returns and provide feedback to preparers
- Communicate with government agencies for complex matters
- Identify technical issues and provide recommendations to PCS leadership, clients, and advisors
- Stay updated on tax developments and expand knowledge through client engagements
- Prioritize and review work to ensure timely completion of engagements
- Utilize analytical, research, and critical thinking skills to assist clients with individual and business decisions
- Contribute to PCS and firm responsibilities such as billing, recruiting, and attending CPE activities and training
- Build and maintain relationships with BDO professionals and external sources

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise associates, senior associates, and managers when needed
- Review work prepared by team members and provide feedback
- Act as a Career Advisor and schedule and manage workload of team members
- Provide performance feedback to team members

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics (preferred)
- Master's degree in Accountancy or Taxation (preferred)

Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or law
- Expertise in private client services
- Prior supervisory experience
- Experience in public accounting (preferred)

License/Certifications:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA), Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or equivalent designation (required)
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role (preferred)

Software:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat (required)
- Experience with tax compliance process software (GoSystems, BNA Tax Planner, GoFileRoom, SurePrep - preferred)
- Experience with tax research tools (BNA Portfolio, CCH IntelliConnect, Checkpoint, and Lexis Nexis - preferred)

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Initiative: takes ownership of career and technical development, and actively pursues learning opportunities
- Communication: effectively expresses complex thoughts verbally and in writing, and maintains regular communication with clients
- Leadership: manages and monitors key performance indicators, and actively participates in practice matters such as recruitment and staff development
- Technical Skills: has in-depth knowledge of tax concepts and applies standards to advise clients, and introduces new ideas to improve client outcomes
- Business Development: develops a network of key financial decision makers and actively networks professionally
- People Development: supervises, develops, and trains employees, and acts as a Career Advisor to team members
