Assistant General Counsel Phoenix Children's Hospital is seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant General Counsel to join its legal team. With at least five (5) years of healthcare law experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH) is in compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations. Job Responsibilities: Draft and review contracts, including, but not limited to, physician employment agreements, medical director agreements, real estate leases, equipment leases, research agreements and vendor and information technology contracts. Provide advice and guidance regarding compliance, medical staff issues, licensing, employment law, research, and business transactions. Remain current on laws and advise clinical and operational leaders on compliance and enforcement matters, and help evaluate and develop options to address regulatory developments. Oversee administrative functions relating to corporate filings, license renewals, and other miscellaneous documentation needs. Possess a fundamental knowledge of major federal laws relating to healthcare, including, but not limited to, fraud and abuse laws, self-referral prohibitions (“Stark Law”), EMTALA, HIPAA, and laws relating to tax-exempt organizations. Develop a fundamental knowledge of analogous state laws applicable to the Hospital. Prepare document templates for recurrent use; standardize contracts and forms and draft legal documents unique to specific needs. Represent the Hospital in negotiation of and prepare a wide range of legal documents, including, but not limited to, legal memoranda, contracts, and transactional documents. Research legal issues, identify alternative courses of action and associated legal risks, and make recommendations. Maintain current knowledge of industry and related legal/regulatory developments and communicate relevant information, as appropriate, to internal clients and the legal team. Review contracts and other legal documents for regulatory compliance and language unfavorable to the Hospital. Act as a clearinghouse for official notices and develop process for responding to subpoenas. Provide legal analysis, advice, and counsel to senior management and, as appropriate, to other employees, on a wide range of legal issues affecting health care operations, medical staff, and patient care matters. Job Requirements: At least five (5) years of healthcare law experience in a law firm or in-house legal department working successfully with hospitals or health systems. Familiarity with laws, rules and regulations applicable to healthcare entities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
