Job Title: Attorney

Job Overview: A law firm in Virginia Beach, VA, is seeking an Attorney with a preference for those with a family law background and familiarity with Tidewater courts. The successful candidate will primarily serve as second chair on high asset/complicated family/civil litigation cases, manage client communications, interact with key witnesses, opposing counsel, and court personnel, and contribute to developing trial strategy. Additionally, the Attorney will establish and develop their client base, draft legal documents, prepare for and handle motions, oral arguments, and evidentiary hearings, and work closely with assigned paralegals.

Duties:

• Serve as second chair on high asset/complicated family/civil litigation cases.
• Establish and develop own client base.
• Manage client communications and interact with key witnesses, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
• Take and defend depositions.
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, briefs, and other legal documents.
• Prepare for and handle motions, oral arguments, and evidentiary hearings.
• Develop a trial strategy.
• Work closely with assigned paralegals.
• Learn legal marketing techniques.
• Develop and expand the referral network.
• Contribute to the Tidewater community as a valuable member.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the Virginia State Bar or ability to obtain admission within a reasonable timeframe.
• Preference is given to candidates with a background in family law.
• Familiarity with Tidewater courts preferred.
• Proven experience in civil litigation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to professionalism and ethical conduct.

Certifications:

• Admission to the Virginia State Bar or ability to obtain admission within a reasonable timeframe.
