## Overview The **Organization's Appellate Staff** is looking for summer Law Student Volunteers to join their team. The Appellate Staff is responsible for preparing briefs, presenting oral arguments and providing recommendations to the United States in high-profile and sensitive litigation cases. This unpaid internship offers academic or work-study credit, transit subsidies, and the opportunity to participate in moot courts and attend oral arguments. ## Job Title Law Student Volunteer, Summer – Appellate Staff, Civil Division (CIV) ## Job Description Interns in the Appellate Staff of the Civil Division typically perform legal research, write memoranda, and prepare initial drafts of appellate briefs. Assignments may involve legal research, searching legislative history, and participating in moot courts with staff attorneys. ## Qualifications Candidates must: - Have completed at least one year of law school by the start of the internship - Have excellent writing skills and high academic standing - Be . citizens or nationals - Have resided at least three of the past five years in the United States - Successfully complete a background investigation ## Duration Current 1Ls (rising 2Ls) are required to work 8 weeks full-time while current 2Ls (rising 3Ls) are required to work 6 weeks full-time. Current 2Ls may split their summer with another employer if desired. Current 3Ls are ineligible for this unpaid internship and should instead apply for a paid summer internship through the Summer Law Intern Program (SLIP). ## Salary Academic or work-study credit possible. Transit subsidies are available. Current 2Ls interested in a paid position should also apply through SLIP. ## Application Process Current 2Ls are encouraged to apply at their earliest convenience during the fall semester, preferably by October 15 (though later applications may be considered on a case-by-case basis).
