Job Overview: A law firm in San Diego, CA, is seeking a Mid-Level Medical Devices and Mechanical Engineering Patent Prosecution Agent to join their team. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a high level of academic achievement, possess solid law firm, engineering, or industry experience, and excel in writing and communication skills. The role requires at least 3 years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience, along with a degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering. Candidates with other engineering disciplines, coupled with substantial patent experience in medical devices and/or mechanical products, will also be considered. Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is a prerequisite for this position.

Duties:

• Conduct thorough patent searches and analyses for medical devices and mechanical engineering inventions.
• Draft and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO.
• Collaborate with inventors, attorneys, and technical experts to understand the intricacies of inventions.
• Provide legal advice on patentability, freedom-to-operate, and infringement matters.
• Manage and maintain a portfolio of patents.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience.
• Degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering.
• Other engineering disciplines with substantial patent experience in medical devices and/or mechanical products are acceptable.
• Admission to the USPTO.

Education:

• Bachelor or advanced degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering.

Certifications:

• Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
