A renowned law firm in Charlotte, NC, is seeking a Patent Agent to join its Intellectual Property team. This is an opportunity for professionals with a strong background in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering to make a significant impact in the field of intellectual property. In this role, the Patent Agent will collaborate closely with the IP team to draft and prosecute patent applications before the . Patent & Trademark Office, supporting clients in safeguarding their innovative ideas and inventions. Responsibilities also include assisting with patent litigation, patent office proceedings, and patent diligence for mergers and acquisitions, as well as conducting patentability assessments and third-party patent searches.
The ideal candidate for this role possesses patent application drafting and prosecution experience, along with well-developed patent database search skills. They should have substantive academic and professional knowledge, strong time management skills for a fast-paced environment, and an undergraduate degree in the specified engineering fields. Additional experience in prosecuting patent applications in mechanical and electrical engineering, with a preference for chemistry or biochemistry expertise, is a plus. Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of intellectual property experience in patent transactional matters and hold a USPTO registration number (required), with an advanced technical degree being preferred.
