A law firm in Reston is seeking a Patent Agent with expertise in Chemistry to join its Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group, specifically the Patent Development and Strategy Subgroup. The ideal candidate should have experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications, particularly in chemical technologies, while also being able to handle broader technologies in mechanical and light electrical engineering. Litigation, opinions, licensing, patent due diligence, and/or trademark experience are preferred. The candidate must possess a degree in chemical engineering or chemistry and be registered with the USPTO.

 

Duties:

  • Preparation and prosecution of patent applications in chemical technologies, mechanical engineering, and light electrical engineering
  • Conducting patentability searches and analyses
  • Providing technical expertise and advice on patent-related matters to clients
  • Collaborating with attorneys to develop patent strategies and portfolios for clients
  • Assisting with patent litigation, opinions, licensing, and due diligence projects
  • Managing and maintaining patent dockets and deadlines
  • Keeping abreast of developments in patent law and regulations

 

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications
  • Experience in chemical technologies, with the ability to handle mechanical and light electrical engineering technologies
  • Litigation, opinions, licensing, patent due diligence, and/or trademark experience is preferred
  • Degree in chemical engineering or chemistry
  • Registration with the USPTO

 

Education:

Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or chemistry
