Are you a first year law student looking for a fulfilling and diverse internship experience? Look no further than Colorado Defenders Organization! Our 1L internships offer a comprehensive learning opportunity, giving you hands-on experience in legal research and writing, court observation, trial support, client interaction, and skills training. As a bonus, our interns get to work in 21 different trial offices across the state, covering 22 judicial districts and 64 counties.

Eligibility for Summer Internships

Our internships are open to first year law students who have completed two semesters of legal studies. We welcome applications from all students, regardless of their location or law school. While our Denver offices may be popular due to their proximity to local law schools, we also encourage students to consider spending a semester in the mountains or serving our rural clients.

How to Apply

The application process for our 1L internships varies depending on the office(s) you are interested in. To apply for an internship in any of our 15 trial offices outside of the Denver Metro area, simply email your resume and cover letter to the designated contact person for that office. If you are applying to multiple offices, please mention it in your email.

For internships in the Denver Metro area, which includes six offices in Arapahoe, Boulder, Brighton, Denver, Castle Rock, and Golden, please email your application to . In your email, indicate which office(s) you are interested in and if you have also applied for offices outside of the Denver Metro area.
