A law firm located in San Diego is seeking a Patent Agent with expertise in Molecular Biology to join its Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group, specifically the Patent Development and Strategy Subgroup. The ideal candidate will possess transferable skills, a strong academic background from nationally recognized schools, and prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in life sciences, particularly biotechnology, along with registration with the USPTO and an advanced degree, preferably a ., in molecular and cellular biology or similar disciplines. Experience in litigation, opinions, licensing, patent due diligence, and/or trademarks is preferred. The role requires a degree in molecular biology and registration with the USPTO.

 

Duties:

  • Conducting patentability searches and analyzing prior art
  • Drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the field of molecular biology
  • Advising clients on patent strategy and portfolio management
  • Conducting patent due diligence and providing opinions on patent validity and infringement
  • Participating in patent litigation and licensing negotiations
  • Collaborating with attorneys and clients to develop and implement patent strategies

 

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in patent law, preferably in a large or mid-sized law firm
  • Strong academic background from nationally recognized schools
  • Background in life sciences, particularly biotechnology
  • Registration with the USPTO
  • Advanced degree, preferably a ., in molecular and cellular biology or similar disciplines (excluding chemistry, medical device, or pharmaceutical sciences)
  • Experience in litigation, opinions, licensing, patent due diligence, and/or trademarks is preferred

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in molecular biology or related field
  • Advanced degree, preferably a ., in molecular and cellular biology or similar disciplines

 

Certifications:

Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

 

Skills:
