A law firm in Alexandria is seeking a Chemical Patent Agent/Technical Advisor with experience in patent application drafting and prosecution to join its Chemical practice. The ideal candidate will be responsible for drafting patent applications, analyzing and preparing replies to office actions, conducting invention and disclosure meetings with clients, and prosecuting patent applications.

 

Duties:

  • Draft patent applications related to chemical inventions.
  • Analyze and prepare responses to office actions from patent examiners.
  • Conduct invention and disclosure meetings/calls with clients to gather information on inventions.
  • Prosecute patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to strategize on patent prosecution matters.
  • Stay updated on developments in patent law and regulations.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field; Master’s or Doctorate preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in patent application drafting or prosecution.
  • Technical background in inorganic or organic chemistry.
  • Industry experience in the chemical field is a plus.
  • Fluency in a foreign language (such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, or German) is advantageous.
  • Superior technical knowledge, writing, and communication skills.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field (required).
  • Master’s or Doctorate in relevant field (preferred).

 

Certifications:

Patent Agent registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is preferred.

 

Skills:

  • Proficiency in patent application drafting and prosecution.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
