A law firm in Sacramento, CA, is seeking an experienced Environmental and Water Law Associate Attorney to join its team. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience in environmental and/or water law matters, with a preference for experience working with public sector clients. Strong knowledge of relevant laws such as the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and Conflicts of Interests is preferred. The role involves assisting in litigation preparation, conducting legal research, drafting pleadings, and interfacing with clients on environmental and water law issues.

 

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel and support on environmental and water law matters for public and private clients.
  • Assist in preparing discovery and pleadings for litigation or adversarial proceedings, particularly at state administrative agencies like the State Water Resources Control Board.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research on specific timelines to support case strategies and arguments.
  • Draft a variety of legal documents, ranging from client memorandums to law and motion work in adversarial proceedings.
  • Handle and manage the preparation and response to written discovery with limited supervision.
  • Interface with clients, conveying professionalism and competence in addressing legal and strategic issues in environmental and water law matters.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California Bar or eligibility for admission by waiver.
  • 3+ years of experience with environmental and/or water law matters, preferably for public and/or private clients.
  • Experience working with public sector clients such as cities, counties, and special districts is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant laws including the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and Conflicts of Interests.
  • Excellent legal research and analysis skills, with the ability to work on specific timelines.
  • Outstanding writing skills, capable of drafting various legal documents with precision and clarity.
  • Ability to handle and manage written discovery processes independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface professionally with clients and colleagues.
