Department of the Interior (DOI), is now accepting applications for Summer 2L and 3L students. This program provides law students with a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in advising agencies on legal matters and participating in complex civil litigation. Students will work alongside nearly 200 practicing attorneys in the headquarters office and more than 300 attorneys nationwide, supporting DOI's mission as the nation's premier conservation agency. Application Schedule: Opening Date: August 1 Closing Date: October 5 Semester: Summer Year: 2L, 3L Organization and Mission: The DOI is responsible for the management and conservation of the nation's natural resources, including land, water, wildlife, and energy resources. The Office of the Solicitor is the legal arm of the DOI, providing legal support to various offices and bureaus within the department. This work has a significant impact on the lives of millions of people, from families taking vacations in national parks to children attending Indian schools. Job Description: The Legal Internship Program at DOI offers law students the opportunity to gain practical experience in advising agencies on legal matters and participating in complex civil litigation. Students will work on a variety of environmental and administrative law issues, as well as issues related to Indian law. The program also offers opportunities to attend hearings and meetings in the Washington, . area and participate in conference calls and strategy sessions with other agency counsel. Salary and Benefits: This internship program is unpaid, but students are eligible to participate in the Transit Subsidy Benefit Program. Qualifications: Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited law school and in good academic standing. Eligible students include undergraduate students who are enrolled at least half-time, public policy graduate students, first-year (second semester), second- and third-year law students, and law school graduates enrolled in graduate law programs. Native American students are strongly encouraged to apply.
