Organization Overview: The Missouri Public Defender System (MPD) is responsible for providing legal representation to indigent clients accused of crimes in the state of Missouri. The MPD is a statewide organization with offices in each judicial circuit. The mission of the MPD is to provide quality legal representation to those who would otherwise be unable to afford it. Position Overview: The District Defender of the Kennett Trial Office is responsible for the overall management and operations of the office. This includes oversight of the staff attorneys and support staff, case assignments, and implementation of office policies. The District Defender is also responsible for the supervision of the staff attorneys and monitoring of their performance. Responsibilities: • Supervise and mentor staff attorneys and support staff • Monitor employee performance and ensure compliance with office policies and procedures • Assign and monitor the caseload of the office • Prepare and submit budget requests and monitor budget expenditures • Prepare and submit reports to the state • Represent the office in meetings with other state and local agencies • Develop and implement office policies and procedures • Hire, train, and develop staff attorneys and support staff • Oversee the training of new attorneys and provide ongoing training for all staff • Participate in community outreach activities • Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications: • Must be a member of the Missouri Bar • Criminal law experience required • Management experience preferred • Ability to effectively manage a team of attorneys and support staff • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to work independently and in a team environment • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills Salary: $8,740/month District Defender Kennett The Missouri Public Defender System is seeking a District Defender for the Kennett Trial Office.
