Job Overview: The Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney will be responsible for preparing and prosecuting patent applications, conducting research on complex technical innovations, and providing legal counsel to clients in the field of intellectual property. This role requires a strong background in computer science or electrical engineering and the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively within the context of patent law.

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications, including drafting patent claims and responses to office actions.
  • Conduct independent research to quickly gain expertise in unfamiliar technology areas.
  • Assist clients in identifying new ideas or innovations in their technology sectors that may be eligible for patent protection (invention harvesting).
  • Provide legal counsel and advice to clients on patent-related matters.
  • Meet work product deadlines and complete projects ahead of schedule.
  • Collaborate with clients and colleagues to understand and address their intellectual property needs.

Requirements:

  • 4-7 years of patent preparation and prosecution experience.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a Bachelor's in Engineering with relevant technical Computer Science or Electrical Engineering work experience.
  • Technical experience in wireless communications or wireless/inductive charging technology is desirable.
  • Strong technical and legal writing skills, with the ability to write clearly, concisely, and persuasively while applying patent law jurisprudence.
  • Ability to independently research and become knowledgeable about unfamiliar technology.
  • Strong self-motivation to meet work product deadlines and complete projects on time.
  • Admission to the USPTO as a registered Patent Attorney or a registered Patent Agent.
