Job Details:

  • Research and analyze the law on complex issues; write briefs for submission to a supervising attorney or direct filing.
  • Synthesize legal research and analysis into coherent written memoranda or briefs for submission to a client or court, and/or edit work done by junior associates.
  • Appear in court on behalf of the firm's clients, argue motions, and address legal issues.
  • Prepare for and attend depositions of plaintiffs, lay witnesses, and expert witnesses.
  • Investigate factual claims and recommend further investigation as needed.
  • Investigate medical allegations and prepare medical defenses.
  • Participate in firm meetings on case strategy, leading discussions on certain cases and/or regarding specific firm clients.
  • Negotiate with opposing counsel on issues in contention and potential resolution of cases.

Requirements:

  • years of relevant experience as a Litigation Associate Attorney.
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and communicate effectively within a team.
  • Familiarity with Federal and State Court Rules.
  • Ability to perform research and legal analysis, write briefs and memoranda, think strategically, and guide junior lawyers.
  • Focus on delivering quality work products and demonstrating creative and strategic lawyering skills.
  • Superior writing skills reflecting thoughtful analysis.
  • Strong time management, organizational skills, attention to detail, and self-motivation.

Certifications and Skills:

  • Possess a Juris Doctorate (JD).
  • Member of the California Bar in good standing.
  • Knowledge of state and federal civil procedure, as well as state, federal, and local rules.
  • Experience in asbestos and benzene/toxic tort litigation.
