Torts attorneys handle all aspects of civil litigation defense in damages lawsuits naming the state, state agencies and state employees as defendants. Attorneys in the section practice in both state and federal court, managing cases from service of process through resolution, including investigation, discovery, motion practice, trial and appellate work. The attorneys in the section handle a wide variety of claims, including personal injury, property damage, medical malpractice, wrongful death and civil rights. They also provide advice and training to agencies and employees to reduce the state’s liability exposure.
