Amazon is seeking an experienced patent attorney to join their legal department and support their growing portfolio of machine learning products and services. This role will be responsible for working closely with the business and technology teams to identify and protect new products and services, as well as counseling on IP issues related to product development and business transactions. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of legal experience and a Juris Doctor degree, as well as experience in transactional and technology licensing. This position is open to candidates in multiple locations, including Seattle, WA, Los Angeles, CA, Silicon Valley, and Arlington, VA.

Key Responsibilities:

- Engage with scientists, developers, and engineers to identify protectable aspects of their innovations
- Work with outside counsel on the preparation, filing, and prosecution of patent portfolios
- Provide direct client counseling on IP issues related to product development, business transactions, and machine learning
- Analyze patent portfolios and assess IP risk from third parties
- Become a trusted advisor to teams building new web services and products
- Help shape services and experiences to delight customers

Requirements:

- Minimum of 5 years of legal experience
- Juris Doctor degree and membership in one state bar or equivalent
- Experience in transactional and technology licensing
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for technology
- Ability to work hard and thrive in challenging situations
- Sound judgment even in ambiguous situations

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in both corporate law firm and in-house work

Compensation:

- Based on experience and includes equity compensation
- Dependent on market location and job-related factors such as skills and experience
