Assistant Commonwealth Attorney
Duties: The candidate performs difficult and complex professional work prosecuting cases for the Commonwealth Attorney's Office under policies established by the Elected Commonwealth Attorney, administratively managing the resources to fulfill goals and directives of the Commonwealth Attorney. Perform any other tasks or assignments as assigned by the Commonwealth's Attorney. Work will also involve the overall practice of prosecuting cases at all levels of Courts in Virginia. Provide professional direction, evaluation, and advice to police agencies with regard to their administration. Attend meetings and provide staff advice to the Commonwealth Attorney; attend a variety of meetings outside of normal work hours. Provide public addresses to professional and community groups. Exercise independent decision-making on issues related to the prosecution of crimes within the jurisdiction of the Commonwealth Attorney's Office. Must be able to try cases at all Court levels in the Commonwealth. The caseload will include a large majority of General District Court cases, with cases in Circuit Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court as well.

Qualification and Experience Qualifications: The candidate should have a Bachelor's Degree and Law Degree, possess a current Virginia Bar License, and must not have any disciplinary actions by the Virginia State Bar within the past 3 years. Also, 3+ years of experience as a prosecutor or similar experience in the practice of law is preferred. A valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia and a valid Virginia State Bar license are special requirements. Thorough knowledge of the organization, function and methods of operation of the Carroll County Commonwealth Attorney's Office; thorough knowledge of the Code of Virginia, other general statutes, ordinances, and other legislation affecting the role of prosecution of crimes.
