## Law Student Volunteer at Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section (MLARS), Criminal Division (CRM) Organization is looking for law student volunteers to work directly with trial attorneys on cutting-edge issues relating to section cases involving domestic and international asset forfeiture, money laundering, kleptocracy, and criminal violations of the Bank Secrecy Act and IEEPA. ### Job Title: Law Student Volunteer ### Salary: Volunteer (without compensation). Academic or work-study credit possible. ### Qualifications: - In first year of law school (second semester) or beyond - Strong academic background - Excellent research, writing, and communication skills - Strong interest in criminal law, particularly in the areas of asset forfeiture, money laundering, or financial investigations - Pass a background check ### Responsibilities: - Legal research - Drafting pleadings and motions - Analyzing policy issues - Drafting section publications - Participating in local section-sponsored training - Participating in training programs offered by the Department for volunteers ### Time Commitment: - Work a minimum of 8 weeks (10 weeks preferred), full-time or part-time (at least 20 hours/week) - Travel: None ### Application Process: Applicants should submit the following materials via e-mail to : - Cover letter (including dates available and reasons for applying to MLARS) - Resume - Transcript (official or unofficial) - Brief writing sample (no more than 10 pages) - Two references Please include your name and "Law Student Volunteer Application" in the subject line. ### Application Deadlines: - Fall 2024 applications: May 1st, 2024 - Spring 2024 applications: October 1st, 2023 - Summer 2024 applications for 2L's: November 1, 2023 - Summer 2024 applications for 1L's: December 1, 2023 Interviews will be on a rolling basis and will generally be conducted by telephone.
