# Sr. Director, Legal Counsel

Blue Shield of California is looking for a highly qualified and experienced Sr. Director, Legal Counsel to join their Regulatory Law team. This Senior Director position within the Regulatory Law Department will report to the Managing Associate General Counsel and will primarily be supporting the Pharmacy business of Blue Shield of California with its regulatory and contractual business requirements.

## Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role will possess a combination of law firm and in-house experience, strong communication skills, independent judgment, problem-solving, critical, and analytical thinking skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. The candidate must have a juris doctorate degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and be an active member of the California bar, or active licensee in good standing of a bar of a United States state or the District of Columbia who maintains Registered In-House Counsel status with the State Bar of California.

## Responsibilities

The Sr. Director, Legal Counsel will have a variety of responsibilities, including:

* Retaining, overseeing, and managing the work of outside counsel and ensuring adherence to outside counsel budget
* Recommending operational plans and strategies that directly impact the achievement of overall results for multiple departments and company-wide results
* Functioning as the general counsel of the business and functional units assigned, and coordinating all legal services required by those units as an integral member of the units’ leadership team
* Designing and implementing policies governing Law Department organization, mission, strategy, and goals
* Working with executives to develop Blue Shield vision and strategy
* Supporting the Pharmacy business unit and specific pharmacy initiatives
* Interfacing with pharmaceutical industry and supply chain entities, working with external legal teams and advice on negotiations of contractual arrangements

The pay range for this role is: $ to $ for California. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
