Deputy Prosecuting Attorney I
The candidate will maintains District Court misdemeanor cases and Superior Court case docket for juvenile matters as assigned. Maintains Superior Court case docket for adult felonies as assigned. Researches legal bases for complaints and cases filed to determine legal sufficiency. Reviews and prepares physical evidence. Notifies and interviews witnesses. Requests further investigation by law enforcement as necessary. Evaluates cases for disposition. Prepares charges to be filed. Prepares issues, evidence, research, and arguments for Superior court hearings and trials. Conducts plea negotiations. Prosecutes offenders in District and Superior Courts. Determines strategy, organization, timing and order of evidence presentation, appearance of witnesses, jury instructions, and related matters. Performs similar duties in other courts as assigned. If assigned to Juvenile Court, acts as principal liaison between Prosecuting Attorney and Juvenile Administrator and attend Juvenile Advisory Group Meetings. Provides assistance to other attorneys in the preparation and prosecution of more complex cases and on other matters as needed. Remains current on new laws, regulations and procedures. Provides legal advice and representations to County departments and elected officials as assigned by the Prosecuting Attorney. Performs Deputy Coroner duties as assigned, and provides 24-hour on-call coroner services on a rotational basis. Gathers decedent information; contacts decedent's medical provider; arranges autopsies; coordinates with family, funeral home and pathologist as needed; completes death certificate, notification to next of kin, and attends autopsies as required. Fill in for other prosecutors. Assigned to voter canvassing board and assists Superior Court and county departments in implementing new policies and procedures as necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques and related tools/equipment to accomplish the basic function of this position, including any safety and/or legal requirements. Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job.
