The Georgia Capital Defender's Office in Macon is seeking a highly skilled and motivated First Chair Attorney to join their team. This position offers the opportunity to lead a team of dedicated attorneys and provide zealous representation to indigent defendants facing the death penalty.

Responsibilities:
• Lead a team of attorneys in the defense of indigent defendants facing the death penalty
• Handle predominantly middle Georgia capital cases, but must be willing and able to handle cases throughout Georgia if necessary
• Provide client-centered representation and advocacy
• Conduct legal research and analyze statutes, case law, evidence, and other relevant information
• Prepare and present oral arguments in court
• Supervise and review the activities of the staff
• Coordinate and implement due process procedures and procedures for appeals
• Stay updated on current trends and developments in case law and attend related seminars and conferences
• Provide input and feedback to management on policies, programs, and training for staff

Requirements:
• Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university
• Licensed to practice law in the State of Georgia
• Minimum of 3 years of related legal experience
• Strong interest in death penalty defense
• Capital experience preferred
