About the Role:

The Senior Counsel at Umpqua Bank will provide legal counsel to various bank departments, with a focus on pending or threatened litigation, depository and branch operations, fraud and other financial investigations, and state and federal regulatory compliance. This role reports to the Deputy General Counsel and works closely with outside counsel to oversee active and threatened litigation and develop effective resolution strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

- Oversee active and threatened litigation associated with the Bank's provision of banking services
- Advise Deposit Support and branch management teams on issues related to consumer and commercial deposit and safe deposit box relationships
- Advise the Legal Services Support team on issues related to subpoenas, garnishments, and levies
- Advise the Treasury Management team on issues related to ancillary commercial deposit services
- Advise the Fraud Investigations team on issues related to deposit relationships and services
- Provide legal counsel for lending structure and documentation
- Stay updated on federal regulation and state law changes related to the Bank's business activities
- Serve as a subject matter expert for legal counsel to other teams as needed
- Act as an internal point of contact for outside counsel
- Demonstrate compliance with all bank regulations
- Maintain working knowledge of policies and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act, Regulation CC, Regulation E, Bank Security, and other regulations

Qualifications:

- 10 years of experience as an attorney or equivalent work experience, with a focus on financial institutions
- Working knowledge of federal regulation, state law, Uniform Commercial Code, and case law related to consumer and commercial depository relationships
- Working knowledge of state law related to secured transactions and creditor's rights (preferred)
- Familiarity with state and federal court rules and procedures
- Ability to prioritize and handle stressful situations in a professional manner
- Occasional travel may be required
- Valid driver's license
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
