Join ReCode Therapeutics as a Patent Counsel or Patent Agent and be a part of the next wave of genetic medicines. Located in Menlo Park, California, ReCode is a clinical-stage genetic medicines company using precision delivery technology to power the next generation of mRNA and gene correction therapies. With a focus on Selective Organ Targeting (SORT) lipid nanoparticle (LNP) platform, ReCode is able to deliver genetic medicines directly to the organs, tissues, and cells implicated in disease, resulting in improved efficacy and potency.

ReCode's lead programs include RCT1100 for the treatment of primary ciliary dyskinesia caused by pathogenic mutations in the DNAI1 gene and RCT2100 for the treatment of cystic fibrosis patients with Class I mutations in the CFTR gene who do not respond to currently approved CFTR modulators. These programs utilize the SORT LNP delivery platform and are currently in clinical trials. ReCode is also expanding its pipeline to develop potential therapies for other rare and common genetic diseases, including musculoskeletal, central nervous system, liver, and infectious disease indications.

As a Patent Counsel or Patent Agent at ReCode, you will play a primary role in the company's strategic IP efforts worldwide. Responsibilities include being a strategic contributor to the drafting, filing, prosecution, and maintenance of the patent portfolio, providing hands-on direction and input to outside counsel, and interacting with R&D at all levels to identify patent-worthy inventions and secure patents on innovations. You will also have the opportunity to build strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across internal teams, including R&D, pre-clinical and clinical teams, business development, and legal. Additionally, you will be a strategic contributor to IP due diligence, technology assessments, and freedom-to-operate analyses in potential strategic transactions such as M&A, licensing, and financing.

To be considered for this position, you must have at least 3 years of experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications in a law firm or in-house in the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, chemistry, or biotechnology. You must also be admitted to the United States Patent & Trademark Office Bar and have a solid knowledge of global intellectual property laws and practices. A PhD degree in a biotech-related discipline, such as cell or molecular biology, genomics, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, chemistry, or cancer biology, is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a strong aptitude for learning and working with a range of technologies and a willingness to engage with scientists. Excellent organizational, writing, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills are also required.

Preferred qualifications for this position include experience managing outside counsel and experience with LNPs and mRNA therapeutics. A . degree is preferred for patent attorneys.

The salary range for this position is $170K-$180K for Patent Agents and $190K-$230K for Patent Counsel (may vary for remote positions).
