A law firm in St. Louis is currently seeking a Mid-level Medical Devices and Mechanical Engineering Patent Prosecution Patent Agent. The ideal candidate should hold a degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering, and other engineering disciplines will be considered, provided there is substantial patent experience with medical devices and/or mechanical products. Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required. The firm is looking for candidates with a high level of academic achievement, solid law firm, engineering, or industry experience, and excellent writing and communication skills.

 

Duties:

  • Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and legal colleagues to assess and understand technical concepts related to medical devices and mechanical engineering.
  • Draft and prepare patent applications, responses to office actions, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct legal research to support patent prosecution efforts.
  • Analyze and interpret complex technical documents and translate them into patent applications.
  • Assist in managing and maintaining the firm's patent portfolios.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering; other engineering disciplines with substantial patent experience in medical devices and/or mechanical products will be considered.
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • 3+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience.
  • High level of academic achievement.

 

Education:

Bachelor's degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering.

 

Certifications:

Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

 

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of patent law and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
