Tax Senior, Unclaimed Property Tax; State and Local Tax (SALT) - Job Summary and Salary Information Job Title: Tax Senior, Unclaimed Property Tax Department: Multistate Tax Services (MTS) Company: Deloitte Tax LLP Experience: 3+ years in state and local tax, 1+ years in unclaimed property tax Salary Range: $68,180 to $144,300 (depending on skills, experience, and location) Position Summary Deloitte Tax LLP is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tax Senior to join their Multistate Tax Services (MTS) group. The Tax Senior will be responsible for providing state tax consulting and compliance services to a diverse client base in various industries. This role requires a strategic and analytical mindset, as well as the ability to work on complex state unclaimed property tax issues. The Team Deloitte's MTS group is one of the largest State and Local Tax (SALT) practices in the United States, with over 1,000 professionals nationwide. The team includes former state tax auditors and administrators, industry personnel, tax practitioners, and technology experts with extensive multistate tax experience. Their services include state income and franchise tax, indirect tax, unclaimed property, business restructuring, credits and incentives, sales and use tax outsourcing, excise tax, property tax, state strategic tax review, and state tax controversy. Work You'll Do As a Tax Senior in the Unclaimed Property Tax group, you will work on large, complex tax projects, develop your technical knowledge in state taxation, and have access to exceptional training and resources. You will also have the opportunity to continue developing your supervisory and leadership skills. Responsibilities may include: - Providing state tax consulting and compliance services to clients in various industries - Assisting with assessment, audit, or voluntary disclosure agreement processes - Developing written communications and facilitating verbal discussions with clients, legal counsel, and state representatives - Tracking client requests and submissions, and reviewing tax documents, accounting records, policies, and procedures - Performing data analysis to identify potential unclaimed property risks - Developing strategies to mitigate potential unclaimed property exposure - Drafting final deliverables and reports for client and state submission - Demonstrating critical thinking and problem-solving skills - Extracting insights from current industry or sector trends - Reviewing work for quality, accuracy, and relevance - Seeking opportunities for exposure to different situations, environments, and perspectives - Communicating effectively with others to influence and connect Qualifications Required: - Ability to work in a hybrid model, co-locating in person 2-3 days per week - 3+ years of experience in state and local tax, with at least 1 year in unclaimed property tax - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field - One of the following accreditations (obtained, in process, or willing to obtain): - Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office (if eligible to sit for CPA exam) - Licensed attorney - Enrolled Agent - Certifications: CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) - Ability to travel up to 10%, on average, based on work and client/industry sectors Preferred: - Advanced degree (Masters of Tax, JD, or LLM) - Previous experience at a Big 4 or large CPA firm - Supervisory experience Benefits and Culture Deloitte values its people and offers a broad range of benefits, including professional development opportunities, mentorship programs, and a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture.
