Umpqua Bank is currently seeking a Senior Counsel to join our Corporate Legal team in the Pacific Northwest. This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading regional bank with a strong commitment to its employees, customers, and communities.

Key responsibilities for this position include providing legal counsel to various bank departments, especially in the areas of pending or threatened litigation, depository and branch operations, fraud and other financial investigations, and state and federal regulatory compliance. The Senior Counsel will work closely with the Deputy General Counsel and outside counsel to oversee active and threatened litigation, advise deposit support and branch management teams, and provide legal counsel to other teams as needed.

The ideal candidate will have at least ten years of experience as an attorney, with a focus on representation of financial institutions or an in-house position with a financial institution. Admission to the California, Oregon, and/or Washington bar associations is required, as well as a working knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to consumer and commercial depository relationships. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is also necessary for this role.

Responsibilities:

- Provide legal counsel to various bank departments, including pending or threatened litigation, depository and branch operations, fraud and other financial investigations, and state and federal regulatory compliance
- Oversee active and threatened litigation with the Deputy General Counsel and outside counsel
- Advise deposit support and branch management teams on issues related to consumer and commercial deposit and safe deposit box relationships
- Serve as a subject matter expert on developments in federal regulations and state laws relevant to the bank's business activities
- Provide legal counsel to other teams as needed
- Serve as an internal point of contact for outside counsel, facilitating communication between bank personnel and outside counsel
- Maintain compliance with all bank regulations and policies
- Stay up to date on changes in regulations related to the position

Requirements:

- Admission to the California, Oregon, and/or Washington bar associations
- 10+ years of experience as an attorney, with a focus on representation of financial institutions or an in-house position with a financial institution
- Working knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to consumer and commercial depository relationships
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to prioritize competing interests and handle stressful situations in a professional manner
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed
