A law firm in Kansas City, MO, is seeking a Biotech-Life Science Patent Prosecution/Patent Agent or Scientist with excellent academic credentials, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate should possess an advanced degree (. preferred) in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, cellular/molecular biology, molecular genetics, microbiology, or a comparable field. Previous experience in a law firm or industry, along with current admission to the USPTO, is required.

 

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications for life sciences, biotech, or pharmaceutical inventions.
  • Conduct comprehensive prior art searches and analyze patent and scientific literature.
  • Collaborate closely with inventors, attorneys, and clients to develop effective patent protection strategies.
  • Manage patent portfolios and provide support in patent litigation matters when necessary.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry developments.

 

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (. preferred) in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, cellular/molecular biology, molecular genetics, microbiology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a law firm or industry setting.
  • Admission to the USPTO.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications for life sciences, biotech, or pharmaceutical inventions.
  • Experience in biotech commercialization, such as university tech transfer, or industry commercialization/regulatory compliance is desirable.

 

Education:

Advanced degree (. preferred) in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, cellular/molecular biology, molecular genetics, microbiology, or a relevant discipline.

 

Certifications:

Admission to the USPTO.
