This position offers a **pay rate of $76,** and the **closing date for applications is Open Until Filled**. ### Qualifications In order to apply for this position, applicants must meet the following qualifications: - **Juris Doctorate** - Current admission in the state bar of Arizona, New Mexico, or Utah or current admission in any state bar with the intention of seeking admission in either Arizona, New Mexico, or Utah within one year of hire. - Current admission to the Navajo Nation Bar Association or the intention of seeking admission into the Navajo Bar Association within one year of date of hire. - Current admission requires submittal of a Certificate of Good Standing from the State Bar as requested by the Department of Justice. ### Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The successful candidate must have knowledge of: - Federal, state, and tribal laws affecting assigned area - Specific laws related to assignment - Federal Indian Law - Legal research methods and techniques In addition, the successful candidate must possess the following skills: - Analyzing and organizing facts, evidence, and precedent - Preparing and presenting legal opinions - Presenting material - Developing legal arguments and defense - Verbal and written communication - Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships ### Duties and Responsibilities The Attorney works under the general direction of Attorney General Office and the direct supervision of the assigned Assistant Attorney General. The Attorney provides legal assistance to the Division of Economic Development, Division of Community Development, the Navajo Gaming Regulatory Office, and other entities of the Navajo Nation as needed. The Attorney represents the Navajo Nation on matters related to state and federal voting; and on matters related to the Navajo Nation’s gaming compacts. The Attorney will work on a wide range of legal issues including drafting and updating code and regulations; statutory and regulatory compliance; construction and professional service contracts; business site leases and business development; and intellectual property. The Attorney will represent the Navajo Nation before courts and administrative tribunals as needed.
