Amazon's legal department is seeking an experienced patent attorney to support our Amazon Stores business and growing portfolio of machine learning products and services. As a member of the patent team, you will work closely with the business and technology teams to launch and protect new products and services. This role involves engaging with scientists, developers, and engineers to identify protectable aspects of their innovations, working with outside counsel on patent prosecution, counseling clients on IP issues, analyzing our patent portfolio, and assessing IP risk from third parties.

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about new technology and can become a trusted advisor to teams building new web services and related products. This role requires curiosity, enthusiasm, hard work, and sound judgment in ambiguous situations.

Salary and Benefits:

Compensation for this position is based on experience and includes equity compensation. Amazon also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits as part of its total compensation package. The base pay for this position ranges from $123,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Additional forms of compensation, such as equity and sign-on payments, may be provided based on the position offered.

Location:

This position can be based in Seattle, WA, Los Angeles, CA, Silicon Valley, or Arlington, VA. Some domestic travel may be required.

Responsibilities:

- Work closely with business and technology teams to launch and protect new products and services

- Analyze and assess our patent portfolio

Qualifications:

- 5+ years of legal experience
- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
- Experience in transactional and technology licensing or equivalent
- Experience in both corporate law firm and in-house work preferred
