## Job Description

The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Prince William County, Cities of Manassas & Manassas Park is looking for an Assistant Commonwealth/County Attorney to join their team. The role involves representing the County in legal matters of an assigned area, providing legal advice, conducting legal research, analyzing matters in preparation for meetings and court appearances, preparing court pleadings and related documents, and representing the County in court.

## Qualifications

* Juris Doctorate degree
* 1-2 years of related experience
* Must be a member of the Virginia State Bar in good standing

Preferred qualifications:

* Experience as a criminal prosecutor or criminal defense
* Ability to work cooperatively with the police departments in the jurisdiction
* Proven ability to manage a large caseload
* Zealous work ethic
* Ability to work with a team
* Strong interest in advocating for the community’s best interest in a variety of cases

## Salary Range

$80, - $135, Annually

## Responsibilities

* Drafts a variety of legal documents, including charging documents, petitions, contracts, agreements, motions, appeal documents, probable cause statements, and/or other legal correspondence or documents
* Coordinates legal cases, including trying cases, selecting juries, writing briefs, and/or performing other related activities
* Conducts legal activities for various units, divisions and courts, including prosecuting criminal lawsuits, attending count hearings, communicating with victims, negotiating settlements, preparing petitions, conducting legal research, analyzing legal issues, and reviewing rules of appellate procedure
* Reviews, prepares, and prosecutes criminal, civil, and juvenile cases
* Interprets and applies applicable laws, rules, and regulations
* Provides sound legal advice
* Analyzes complex information
* Conducts legal research
* Prepares legal documents
* Applies legal principles to determinations on individual cases and problems
* Analyzes, appraises and organizes facts, evidence, and precedents relevant to assigned cases
* Uses a computer and related software applications

* Troubleshoots problems and issues commensurate with relevant experience
* Instructs others in work methods and procedures
* Verifies the work of others

## Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally. Incumbents may be subjected to travel.
