Additionally, interns will have the opportunity to interact with clients through jail and office visits, as well as participate in targeted skills training. Eligibility for a 1L internship at Colorado Defenders USA requires completion of two semesters of legal studies. This means that students can apply for internships starting the summer after their first year of law school. The program is designed to provide a comprehensive and hands-on experience for students, giving them a taste of what it's like to work in the legal field. When applying for a summer internship, students have the option to choose from 21 trial offices that cover 22 judicial districts and 64 counties across the state. While internships in the Denver Metro area tend to be the most popular due to their proximity to local law schools, students are encouraged to also consider internships in frontier, rural, and mountain areas. This allows for a more diverse and well-rounded experience, as interns will have the chance to work with a variety of clients and cases. To apply for a 1L internship in any of the 15 trial offices outside of the Denver Metro area, students can email their resume and cover letter to the designated point of contact for the office(s) of their interest.
