A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney for their Newport News, VA, office. This position entails:

Job Overview:

The Associate Attorney will provide expert legal analysis, handle a high-volume caseload, and negotiate resolutions. They will also represent clients in court proceedings and collaborate closely with the Managing Attorney.

Duties:

  • Treat all customers with fairness and respect, offering tailored payment solutions.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and produce high-quality written documents.
  • Communicate effectively orally, including negotiations with opposing counsel.
  • Manage a high volume of caseloads, providing expert analysis and advice on legal and regulatory risks.
  • Travel to various courts within Virginia as required for legal proceedings and hearings.
  • Report all activity and results to the Managing Attorney.

Requirements:

  • 0-2 years of experience in bankruptcy/collection or civil law litigation.
  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Virginia.
  • It is advantageous to obtain additional licenses to practice law in NC, SC, TN, FL, GA, MD, MI, and OH.
  • In-depth knowledge of Federal Debt Collection Law and State civil litigation laws.
  • Ability to analyze case law and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding time management skills.

Education & Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Virginia.

Skills:

  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and oral communication.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Familiarity with Federal Debt Collection Law and State civil litigation laws.
