The United States Trustee Program (USTP) is seeking law student volunteers for Fall 2024 to assist in promoting the integrity and efficiency of the bankruptcy system for the benefit of all stakeholders. This is an opportunity for law students to gain hands-on experience in bankruptcy law and work with a national program with 21 regions and 89 field offices. About the Organization:

The United States Trustee Program (USTP) is a litigating component of the Department of Justice (DOJ) with a mission to promote the integrity and efficiency of the bankruptcy system. The USTP has broad administrative, regulatory, and enforcement authorities in bankruptcy cases and is the only participant in the process uniquely positioned to address multi-jurisdictional misconduct and systemic fraud and abuse. Job Description:

USTP offers law student volunteers the opportunity to work in two different offices: the Executive Office for . Trustees (EOUST) and the Field Offices. The EOUST is located in Washington, DC, and interns must be available to work in-person. Interns will work directly with either the Director or the Deputy Director for Field Operations and assist with projects related to consumer and chapter 11 bankruptcy law. Field Office Interns will work in one of the 89 field offices located throughout the country and assist attorneys with various tasks related to bankruptcy court appearances, fraud referrals, and case reviews.

Qualifications:

Successful candidates will be second- and third-year law students with excellent research and writing skills, attention to detail, and a desire to work as part of a small team. Candidates should also be committed to fairness and integrity in the administration of the bankruptcy system. This is an ideal opportunity for students interested in bankruptcy, litigation, administrative law, policy, and legislation.

Salary and Benefits:

This is an uncompensated volunteer position, but academic credit and transit subsidies may be available. The USTP also offers a flexible telework policy, including two routine telework days per week.
